I don’t have to say explicitly that learning is a continuous process and that it is not static! Every day, every minute an individual keeps learning. Now, some of it may be happening consciously, and some that we are learning as part of the process of conscious learning.
The pandemic has taught that human beings can adapt very easily to changing circumstances. The changes may be positive or negative; willingly adopted and or forced to adopt, for example, the lockdown.
When we were celebrating our birthdays in 2018, did anyone think that many would live to tell a story of their journey through the pandemic? And, many who had plans to conquer their goals, achieve their dreams had to pause their journey intermittently.
Unlearning at its simplest means that we undo what we have learned. Well, it is not that simple. Unlearning occurs while we are adopting the knowledge in its new form. We subconsciously try and adjust what has already been learned to adopt the new information. For example, working from home. Well, it was a ‘perk’ for some before the pandemic. Now it is a ‘norm’. We quickly changed how to interact with colleagues, and how to have the watercooler chats differently. Does that mean we have unlearnt how to have casual chats with our friends and colleagues. We changed our mode of interaction, we meaningfully unlearnt certain behaviors (now we check the MS Teams status to see if one is available to initiate the chat compared to when we used to see if the person is at their desk and just walk over to have the chat!).
So, this site is all about how we meaningfully unlearn and adapt to new changes. What is the mental process that we go through during meaningful unlearning?
Let us pick a topic and share our learning, unlearning with a focus on the process itself that we go through. That is, how did we meaningfully unlearn the behaviour that we previously had learned! The idea is to share our journey. It can be an academic article, it can be an extract of a day in your life, or it can be an article in your chosen genre. It doesn’t matter what the format of information is, the key objective is to share the process of learning/meaningful unlearning….and it is a continuous process.
